about

Lots of info behind this one, bear with me ...

Music of mine to words by Hildegaard of Bingen from her opera - I've forgotten the name of it. It was all about the virtues and I think in the original version the nuns in her convent embodied personifications of the virtues. My attempt at a translation follows.

After Hildegaard's words, in the end bit, comes the phrase of the album's title 'the something more you're looking for is the everything you're in'. Wisdom from my spiritual teacher of many years Robin Hensman.

Also under that is me, in wrongly pronounced (!) Sanskrit, speaking the names of the yamas and niyamas from yoga - the beautiful personal and social ethical code of yoga philosophy. They are ahimsa (non violence) asteya (non stealing) (satya (truthfulness) brahmacarya (right use of sexual energy) aparigraha (don't grab at the apple): saucha (cleanliness), santosha (contentment) svadyaya (self-study or study of spiritual texts) tapas (austerity) isvarapranidhana (total surrender to god).

lyrics

Ego contemptus mundi sum candor vitae/ I, disdain for the world, am the light of life
O misera peregrinatio in multis laboribus te demitto/ I reject wondering about in the multiplicity of unhappy earthly occupations and works
O virtute, venite ad me et ascendamus ad fontem vitae/ O virtues come to me, together let us ascend to the font of life.
