I've been what people call a spiritual seeker most of my life, stemming originally from deep unhappiness and depression. Somehow through practices and through grace I've found my way, and on my way I have in true 21st century style, visited a lot of places. My delivery opened me to the true heart of all religion - all the outer trappings being merely garments. This suddenly made me open to Christianity and to Jesus. That's not particularly where I am right now, being more a follower of Thich Nhat Hanh these days, but when I wrote the song ... Jesus was right up there, or in there.
Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us that we cannot do much by ourselves - to heal ourselves or anybody else. We need others, a sangha or community of fellow travellers. The second verse is sort of about that 'pick up your passengers, you needn't travel alone'. And the refrain 'it's happening now' is ... well self evident. It's happening now because there is only now.
lyrics
Check out the road ahead, check your windscreen's clear.
Pull out the map, let's drive
Until the fork in the road appears, until that fork appears.
Head for the mountain range and wind your windows down
To let the snow pour in.
Until the fire in the heart is found, until that fire is found.
He'll take you wounded, he'll take you broken .
He'll take you higher than you've ever been.
Are you worried that you may be guilty,
Aha, release, let it into the stream.
Pick up your passengers, you needn't travel alone.
And just take one last look.
Now go, hit the road
There it is leading home.
Look sharp, look deep, look long
Now go , hit the road
There it is, leading home.
Look sharp, look deep, look long.
He'll take you wounded, he'll take you broken .
He'll take you higher than you've ever been.
Are you worried that you may be guilty,
Aha, release, let it into the stream.
It's happening now.
Amen, amen.
