about

This is a reprise of the title song of my first collection of songs. This is a personal song about a wild card character who turned up in my life, a sort of joker. Basically I was conned so fundamentally that ... I learned a lot about how desperate I was at that time to 'get into a relationship'. And I learned that in this world there are people who, for reasons of their own suffering no doubt, lie about absolutely everything right down to their name. I don't actually know this person's real name - we did enjoy our few weeks together. And I did find him on the road, selling the Big Issue. Totally charming, apparently down on his luck. Thanks to Jo Winsland-Moineau for her good advice - pity I didn't take it!

lyrics

I've been thinking hard to get the measure of you
But thinking won't pull back the pleasure of you.
You turned up on the street like something shiny, darling.

Always finding treasure on the road.

Lying on my bed I cannot see the ceiling
'Cause you have covered us in clouds of bitter healing.
Fit to fill my lungs, your scorpionn death - that stung me.

Always finding treasure on the road

Lies.
You told them by the million
And I, I turned out to be
So desperate to believe
That things were better than they seemed
That I believed.

I could have loved you more if you had stayed for longer
But you had different plans and voices that were stronger.
The letters that I wrote, I know they will not reach you.
Always finding treasure on the road

Lies.
You told them by the million
And I, I turned out to be
So desperate to believe
That things were better than they seemed
That I believed.
